Whether you’re a small business owner, or in a corporate leadership role, you might be doing it wrong when it comes to on boarding new employees. Sometimes you need to be open-minded when it comes to hiring. There is no such thing as the “perfect candidate” and yes, you WILL need to train them. Stop pretending that you won’t. Hiring employees are a huge investment to your company.

If you have a dedicated hiring manager, you need to let them go! They may be detrimental to you finding qualified candidates. A lot of hiring managers have recently have become “too big for their britches” and go on power trips over candidates especially since this is a buyer’s market of employment. This means, as a CEO, you may never see certain candidates that have exactly what you need. That’s because most hiring managers have no idea of the requirements of the position, and no idea of the business requirements of the company.

Hiring employees, creating job postings, all are part of your brand image. These must be done properly and respectfully as to not tarnish your brand image. Remember, candidates are both customers and have influence over other potential customers to your company. Word of mouth is powerful. Candidates that are not respected by your hiring manager can be detrimental to your business. Be careful. Hire them yourself and remember be professional.
